The Crucible

I believe that the character of John Proctor in "The Crucible" is a tragic hero. "The Crucible" is a play that talks about the situation of Salem during the witch hunt. It shows how unfair they are and how paranoid people were. The play is a allegory to the Red Scare and McCarthyism because during the 1950´s the government would hunt down people they thought to be communist and would blacklist them.

In this case Proctor was accused of being a witch because another character had accused Proctor to save herself, also becuase he had confessed to lechery. These show us tragedy, first of all becuase he put his life at risk by admitting to sin. Second because someone alse had incriminated him of something he hadn´t done. Then more tragedy comes when he chooses death instead of admitting he was witch. Beside this being tragic it made him a hero because he´d rather die than loose his name by admitting he was a witch.
