You Can´t

Hate New Media

Writing about new media is one thing, but using new media to talk about something totally different. Doing a project, I was able to find certain differences in the process of creating. I was assigned in creating an opinionated essay about new media, first time it was done in a written old school format. Then, the second time, I had to give the same work but I had to complete in a new media format. I chose to make an online podcast about my topic and in the process I found some positive sides to making it in this format that actually prove the thesis I present in my essay. It was interesting seeing my thesis applied in real life.

The process of making these two wasn’t different at all in the beginning. They both start with an investigative process in which I researched about many opinions on the topic of new media and gathered many that were in favor, against or neutral. The next step was taking all of this info and organizing it into how each would support or contradict each other. Having organized this I could make my opinion and relate it to the body info I had gathered. From this I passed to writing the structure of the final product where I gave a little bit of evidence for each point and formulated and intro and conclusion. Up to this point the process was the same; I actually recycled most of the things I had used in the first time I handed it in.

Difference between each format came in the creation of the final product. Some of difficulties I came about in making the written form of this project was time, I had to spend a couple or more hours sitting and writing (by the way I´m not the fastest at typing, though I´m not really slow either) which was boring and a little tiring. The only good side I could think of to writing this project instead of making it a podcast was that a written format is easier to go back and correct and edit, but besides that its not better than the podcast. When making the podcast I only came about one possible difficulty that wasn’t a real issue for me because my information was written on a paper I could read. I found that correcting errors is more of a pain, you either have to start over again or you have to cut the mistake out which requires some level of knowledge to pull out right. In contrast the better side to making a podcast was how easy and quick it was, since all my info was there I literarily had to record myself reading and that’s all. Sounds better to me than sitting there and writing.

In summary I would have to say that making a podcast was much easier and quicker than writing an essay. There for supporting my thesis in which I say that new media makes tasks easier and quicker than they would usually be.
